2016 Season Win Total Picks NCAA Football: 'Under'

Mike Riley was underrated as the Oregon State coach. He kept the Beavers competitive and relevant, and Corvallis was one of the toughest places in the Pac-12 to get a late-season victory. But Oregon State bottomed out in 2015 under first-year coach Gary Anderson. Now the Beavers have to scrape themselves off the deck and really start rebuilding what is, right now, the worst team in the league.

Oregon State was No. 110 in total offense and No. 115 in total defense last season. So I don't know that their 13 returning starters this year are a good thing. Oregon State doesn't have a quarterback, and they never looked comfortable running Anderson's version of the spread offense last season. The offensive line has three starters back, including solid left tackle Sean Harlow. But they have a ton of work to do on both sides of the ball.

Oregon State's schedule is rough. Right now the only game on the schedule that I can say for sure is a win would be their game against Idaho State after a bye. But then again, Oregon State is 0-3 against the spread against FCS teams the past three years (including a loss to Eastern Washington in 2013), so maybe that one isn't a gimme. After that, the only Pac-12 game that they might be favored in is against Cal.

The Beavers have gone 5-19 ATS the past two seasons. The books will absolutely catch up with how bad this group is and they won't be a team to bet against. But they are definitely going to have more ATS wins than actual wins this season. I can see Oregon State hustling its way to three SU wins this season. But I'd be stunned if they got four. Play them 'under'.
