Mississippi is coming off one of its best-ever seasons, winning 10 games for just the third time in over 50 years. You would expect that to give the Rebels some positive momentum coming into this season. But a bit of a pall was cast over Ole Miss this offseason after losing three star juniors to the NFL and enduring the draft night controversy surrounding Laremy Tunsil, with allegations of NCAA violations.

Ole Miss may enter this season with some questions, but that doesn't diminish its expectations. Highly-touted recruiting classes the past several years mean that they should be able to withstand the talent drain. The Rebels have the best quarterback in the SEC, Chad Kelly, and will be plugging in former top recruits to fill the holes left by graduation and the draft.

However, they entered last season with 16 returning starters and are now down to 10. Last year 10 of those 16 guys were three-year starters, whereas this season just four players are entering their third year in the lineup. Ole Miss may still have a load of talent. But there's no way that they can replace that level of experience overnight.

Ole Miss's young players will get a baptism by fire this season. They will take on Florida State and Alabama, two national title contenders, in their first three games of the season. Throw in another tricky game against Georgia and then back-to-back mid-October road games at Arkansas and at LSU and that is one of the toughest schedules in the country.

Even if Ole Miss were able to leave LSU with a 4-3 record, they would still have to win out down the stretch in order to beat this season win total. I don't see it happening. The Rebels have increased their win total in all four years under Hugh Freeze. But I think that they are rebuilding this season and won't win more than eight games. I'd play this one 'under'.
