This could be the toughest time of the year for anyone who loves to bet on the NFL. The withdrawal from a recent bonanza of betting action for Super Bowl 50 is just setting in and the prospect of any actual game-time betting action is over six months away.
The one player prop that has popped-up on the board at a few of the bigger online sportsbooks is where Robert Griffin III will be playing next season? The last I checked he was still on the Washington Redskins' current roster, but that is expected to change when the team declines picking-up the option on the final year of his contract.
TopBet has weighed-in on the situation with a set of player prop odds for nine NFL teams and the CFL as a whole as the next stop in what has been a roller-coaster ride since RG III was the second overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft
Which Team Will RG III Play for in 2016?
The team at the top of the list for this prop is the Dallas Cowboys at +160 betting odds. This is a very viable option if RG III is looking to return to the glory days of his college career in Texas when he played for Baylor. Team owner Jerry Jones has proven to go way out on a limb for players that other teams have no interest in and given the wear and tear that current starter Tony Romo endured last season, the Cowboys do need a reliable backup.
Dallas has also been rumored to be interested in saving the career of Johnny Manziel, who was reportedly high on Jones' list during the days leading up to the 2014 NFL Draft. RG III makes much more sense in my book, but it gets hard to predict anything that Jones might be willing to do when it comes to the player personnel decisions he makes for his team.
The second choice on the list at +180 odds is the Houston Texans. It makes perfectly good sense that the Texans would be in the market for a starting quarterback after using as many as three different players to fill this role on their way to a 9-7 record and an unexpected AFC South Division title this past season.
Brian Hoyer got the majority of the playing time under center during this run, but it is highly doubtful that head coach Bill O'Brian sees him as the long-term solution in light of the fact that team owner Bob McNair has already gone on record as saying that Houston needs a franchise quarterback. Many football experts have speculated that the Texans may be willing to roll the dice on RG III resurrecting his career in the other option within his home-town state.
The St. Louis Rams are officially moving to Los Angeles and they have popped-up as the third choice in this prop at +600. RG III could be a good choice to attract some immediate interest from the new fan base. His career has played itself out like a Hollywood movie so far with a rise and fall of the main character and everyone loves a happy ending in this town.
The logistics of the Rams adding Griffin to roster actually does make sense. Last year's big offseason move that exchanged former starter Sam Bradford for Philadelphia starter Nick Foles completely backfired and the new LA Rams do find themselves in need of a legitimate NFL starting quarterback.
The odds climb from there with San Francisco next on the list at +700, followed by closely by Cleveland at +800. I think that new 49ers' head coach Chip Kelly will try and prove everyone wrong about Colin Kaepernick by resigning the soon to be free agent and the Browns need to get on some solid ground with any future quarterback moves following the whole Manziel fiasco.
Philadelphia could be an interesting play at +1200 and the longshots on the list start with Chicago at +2000 followed by Miami, the New York Jets and any CFL team at +2500.
After weighing all the odds in TopBet's RG III player prop, I believe the best play is the Rams at +600. He would be a good fit for head coach Jeff Fisher's offensive scheme that features play action passes and deep throws downfield. It would also be an ironic twist of fate in light of how much the Redskins had to give the Rams to move up in the draft to select Griffin in the first place.
