2016 Season Win Total Picks NCAA Football: 'Over'
After back-to-back 7-6 seasons Nevada could be ready to lurch forward and throw itself back into the discussion of the top teams in the Mountain West. They have quietly been one of the most consistent programs in the league the last 10 years, posting eight winning seasons and making a bowl game in nine of the last 10 campaigns. So it says something when some claim that Brian Polian is working with one of the best teams that he has had in Reno.
The Wolf Pack have 10 starters back from an offense that was No. 25 in rushing last year. That's actually a low ranking for Polian's quirky, run-heavy attack. But, unlike last year, they are stacked with experience and guys that have proven they can get it done against top MWC competition. I expect a major jump in production and they should average over 30 points per game for the first time since 2012.
Defense is a question mark though. They have only five starters back, and four of them are in the secondary. How will the rejiggered front seven hold up?
Nevada has a favorable home schedule this year, with weaker teams like Fresno, Wyoming and Utah State all coming to Reno. They should be able to knock out Cal Poly and Buffalo at home as well. But they also have winnable road games at Hawaii, New Mexico and UNLV. That's eight potential wins right there. They can still get upset and beat this number. That is exactly what I think they will do.
