2016 Season Win Total Picks NCAA Football: 'Over'

A lot of people are still shaking their heads at Nebraska's left field hiring of Mike Riley. And to say that his first season at the helm didn't go well is an understatement as Nebraska suffered just its second losing season in the last 10 years and, remarkably, just its third losing year in over 50 years!

But a closer look at the 2015 campaign will show you that this team was actually a lot closer to a 10-win season than it appears. They lost to BYU on a Hail Mary to open the year. They dropped an overtime heartbreaker at Miami. The Huskers had three other excruciating losses by two points or less, and none of their seven defeats were by more than 10 points. Nebraska outscored and outgained its opponents on the year and stole some momentum with a nice bowl win over UCLA.

As a result, this team might be a little underrated heading into the season. They have 13 returning starters and have 12 seniors in their starting 22. Things should be much smoother in Riley's second year, and everyone enters the year rowing in the same direction.

Nebraska's schedule will not be easy. Not at all. They will have to play their three toughest Big Ten games on the road at Wisconsin, at Ohio State and at Iowa. They also take on Oregon in the nonconference portion of the schedule. So things aren't easy. But Nebraska should be dominant at home, and they have a whole lotta revenge built up against several of the weaker teams in the conference.

I will play Nebraska 'over' here. I think they can spring an upset in one of their four toughest games, and I don't believe they will lose to any of the Big Ten lightweights. This is a team to keep an eye on, and they are the clear favorites in the West Division.
