In case you were wondering, yes, Maryland is still in the Big Ten.

Now that we've established that, the big news for the Terps is that they hired D.J. Durkin to be their head coach. Durkin was Michigan's defensive coordinator under Jim Harbaugh last season and prior to that worked with Urban Meyer at Florida.

Maryland went 3-9 last year and canned Randy Edsall just six games into the season. So there's really nowhere to go but up. But Durkin is overhauling the entire program from scratch, so it's going to take time. A lot of time.

Maryland doesn't have a quarterback. They also lost their top receiver and three of their offensive linemen are sophomores. So I wouldn't expect much of an increase over their No. 95 scoring offense this season. Defensively, I expect a drastic improvement based solely on scheme alone. No, Durkin doesn't have the talent here he enjoyed at his last stops. But Maryland should be better than last year's No. 103-rated scoring group.

The Terps play two of their three nonconference games on the road. That's really not a good sign. And I don't see more than a couple wins falling their way in league play. That would still be an improvement over last year's one-win league flop, though.

At the end of the day, it's tough to predict Maryland to win any games. I know they are going to. But there's really no telling where or when they will come from. As such, I can't see Durkin getting to five victories in his first-ever season as a head coach. This is an easy 'under' call.
