Outside of the golf world, Jason Day might be best known for LeBron James crashing into his wife during a Cleveland Cavaliers game a few months ago. Inside the golf world, however, Day has crashed the Jordan Spieth, Rory McIlroy face-of-golf party and turned it into a three-man race. If the 28-year-old Day can finally have his breakthrough moment in the Masters, after a number of excruciating close calls, the triumvirate of Spieth, McIlroy and Day may be ready to bring the sport back into the mainstream.
Day is coming off his eighth PGA tournament win and seems ready to compete that ever-elusive second majors win. The 2016 Masters is set to begin on April 7, in what promises to be one of the most intriguing tourneys in recent memory. Let's take a closer look at Day's Masters odds with predictions and analysis.
Jason Day 2016 Masters Storylines
Day will be entering Augusta with as much momentum and confidence as possible after a dominant win at Bay Hill in March. The golfer become the first player in nearly 25 years to win the tournament wire to wire, and that impressive performance could be the springboard for an exciting 2016 season. Day is no stranger to huge major performances, as the young pro already owns four Top-4 finishes over the last five years while placing second in the 2011 Masters.
Day is currently ranked second in the world behind Spieth and a spot above the No. 3 McIlroy. The golfer briefly held the No. 1 ranking in 2015 and has since bounced around the No. 2 and No. 3 spots. Most golf experts are firmly on the Day bandwagon, particularly after a tough weekend at Bay Hill were the Australian struggled but kept his composure and still managed to pull off a victory in the face of adversity and pressure.
Jason Day 2016 Odds and Key Stats
Day is currently the favorite to win the 2016 Masters with +1000 odds at Bovada. The golfer earned a cool $1.3 million for his Bay Hill victory to push his yearly PGA earnings to $1.5 million. Day already has two Top-10 finishes in five events played in 2016 with an average round of 70. Day shot 17-under at the Arnold Palmer Invitational for an overall score of 271 strokes. In five tournaments this year, Day missed the cut once and earned a first-, 10th-, 11th- and 23rd-place finish.
Jason Day 2016 Masters Picks and Predictions
Day may be in as good of a position entering the Masters as anyone can be. The trouble with winning a major, however, is the difficultly of playing your best golf over the course of a multi-day tournament. Gone are the days where we can expect a player (Tiger Woods mainly) to win any single tournament, and even outside of the big three, there might be five to 10 other players with excellent shots of winning the tournament (Bubba Watson, Adam Scott, etc). Wagering on Day is as solid of a wager as any on the board, and the golfer already has a history of going deep in at least one major every year. The victory at Bay Hill might be the deciding factor as Day will have nothing but confidence entering Augusta. If you are a Day fan, by all means, take the +1000.
