2016 Season Win Total Picks NCAA Football: 'Push'

Poor old Norm Chow, who was simply lost in four years on the Hawaii sideline, was finally put out to pasture. Hawaii went the complete opposite way for its new head coach, hiring a guy (Nick Rolovich, 36) that is nearly half the age of their former coach (Chow, 70).

Rolovich is an interesting hire. He has a big-time passing background but spent the last few years working as an assistant with the unique running attack at Nevada. Rolovich is clearly going to inject some life into the program, but what he needs is more talent.

Hawaii has nine starters back on offense. But they don't really have a quarterback. They do have their top rusher, three top receivers, and four of their five starting offensive linemen back, though. It is going to be interesting to see how Rolovich makes the pieces fit and who he picks to set up under center.

Defense has been optional on the islands for a long time. And this year they have only six starters back from a group that A) gave up 35.6 points per game last year and B) is learning a new system. Things could be pretty dicey early on.

No team in the country has a more difficult opening month than the Warriors. They start the season down in Australia against California in the first game of the college season. Then the very next week they have to fly up to Michigan - 21 hours of flight time away - for a noon kickoff against a rabid Wolverines squad. Hawaii is at home in a throwaway game the following week before heading back to the mainland to take on Arizona. That's ridiculous.

But Hawaii is going to win at least three games. Easily. They should have the UT-Martin and Massachusetts games in the bag. They also have an opportunity for home wins against Nevada, UNLV or New Mexico. A trip up to Fresno State late in the season is a 50-50 game as well. And the Warriors only need to win one of those games to match last year's effort.

Again, this is an easy call. Hawaii plays 13 regular season games. They will win three of them. If you have the option, definitely play 'over'.
