If there's one thing I've learned about Paul Johnson, it's that he always does his best work when the expectations are the lowest. Well, it's hard for expectations to be much lower for the beleaguered coach, who could be set for his final season on the Yellow Jackets sideline.

George Tech boosters have grown weary of Johnson's option offense, and most feel that the Yellow Jackets, who are a more than respectable 62-44 under Johnson's reign, have gone as far as they can go with Johnson at the helm. He'll have one more chance to prove them wrong.

Tech was a disaster last year. They vaulted to No. 14 in the country after winning their first two games by a combined 135-16. That came after a savage run to close out their 11-3 2014 season. But they lost nine of their last 10 and have just half of last year's starters back heading into this fall.

Offensively, Georgia Tech will lean on quarterback Justin Thomas to run the triple-option. They have a nice blend of young talent and experience in the backfield. But the big question mark is the offensive line. The offensive line is crucial to running an effective option, and Tech has three new starters and is young across the line.

Defensively, the Jackets have just five starters back and lost four of their top six tacklers. They have a lot of experience in the front seven. But how the secondary develops will be important for fourth-year coordinator Ted Roof.

Georgia Tech actually outscored its opponents by nearly four points per game last year. That makes it bizarre that they only claimed three wins. Six of their losses were by a touchdown or less, and I think that this team will be on a mission coming into this season. Georgia Tech opens with a very tough game against Boston College in Ireland. But they play six of their next seven games at home, giving them a great opportunity to build momentum and confidence.

I think the Yellowjackets are going to go at least 7-5, and I think they are just one upset away from getting to eight wins and a decent bowl game. Will that be enough to save Johnson's job? We will see. But for now we will bet them 'over'.
