2016 Season Win Total Picks NCAA Football: 'Under'

Mike Bobo put in a workmanlike 2015 season, guiding the Rams to their third straight winning season and third straight bowl game. Bobo was simply stewarding Jim McElwain's talent, though, and this year really begins his overhaul in Fort Collins.

Colorado State has only 10 starters back this year, it's fewest since the 3-9 team in 2010. But at least Bobo has his quarterback set. Nick Stevens made second team all-league last year and showed a solid command of the offense. However, Stevens lost his top four receivers, including stud Rashard Higgins, and some new options will have to emerge.

Defensively, Colorado State was deceptively strong last year on the back of the nation's No. 9 pass defense. Of course, they allowed over 200 yards rushing last year, so no one needs to throw the ball when they can run it down your throat. Bobo has an entirely new defensive line, and three of his four starting secondary players are gone. So the LB corps will do what it can to keep the Rams defense comparable to last year's group.

Bobo will have an opportunity to get out of the gate quickly. Colorado State has a huge rivalry game with Colorado to start the season, and the two teams have split the last four meetings. It is a big revenge spot for the Rams, who blew a double-digit lead and lost in overtime last season.

After that CSU plays four of its next five games at home. They will need to stock up on wins in the first month, though, because the back half of the slate - with road games at Boise, Air Force and SDSU - won't provide much solace.

I was never high on Bobo the way I am about several other assistants-turned-head coaches around the country. I think he is capable of turning into a perfectly capable leader. But as I look at this team I see a group with a lot more questions than answers. I think they'll get close and they will end up with five wins. But Bobo's got work to do. I'll play 'under'.
