Colorado has endured a gruesome decade of football, and it is hard to remember that for a solid two-decade stretch the Buffs were a perennial Top 15 team. They've gone just 35-88 straight up and 53-68 against the spread over the last 10 seasons and have been a laughingstock since shifting to the Pac-12 in 2011 (5-40 league record).

However, call me crazy, but I kind of like Colorado this season. This team isn't going to compete for a league championship or anything. But I think they will threaten to make it to their first bowl game since 2007.

Colorado is one of the most experienced teams in the country. They have 18 returning starters, 10 senior starters, and 10 three-year starters among their top 22. That includes a rare four-year starter at quarterback in Sefo Liufau, who needs to regain his 2014 form. And if they can avoid the injuries t hat have crippled their defense lately then this will be the best stop-unit Mike MacIntyre has had in his tenure.

Colorado's schedule isn't a cakewalk. They have to tangle with their rival, Colorado State, in a neutral-site opener. They also have trips to Michigan, Oregon and USC in the early part of the season. But they have winnable home games against Oregon State, Arizona State and Washington State, and I think this team is capable of upsetting either UCLA or Utah.

The Buffs have had eight league losses the last two years by a touchdown or less, and five of their nine losses last season came by eight points or fewer. At some point the ball has to bounce their way, and I think this veteran group will be able to steal one of those games. Some early blowouts could actually help build up this team's betting value later in the season, and I really think that this team will be playing for its sixth win in late November.
