Tommy Tuberville looks to continue his destruction of one of the most underrated and undervalued football programs in the country. Cincinnati is a team that, prior to Tuberville's hiring in 2013, had gone 65-26 over a seven-year stretch while serving as a springboard for Mark Dantonio, Br ian Kelly and Butch Jones.

But Tuberville, as he did at Mississippi, Auburn and Texas Tech, seems hell-bent on dragging Cincinnati football into a bog of perpetual underachievement and mediocrity.

Cincinnati flopped its way to a 7-6 record in 2015. That included blowout losses to South Florida (by 38) and San Diego State (by 35) in two of their last three games. Granted, Cincinnati did have some injury issues to deal with, specifically regarding quarterback Gunner Kiel. And three other losses were by just one score. But Cincinnati routinely lost games in which they outgained and outplayed their opponents while also playing down to weak competition like Miami, OH and East Carolina.

There are a lot of factors pointing toward a rebound year for the Bearcats, who are once again flying way below the betting radar. They outgained their opponents by nearly 170 yards per game last season, tops in the AAC, and both their starts lost to injury and their turnover differential suggest this team making a major leap forward. Kiel is back - although they did lose their top rusher and top six receivers - and the Bearcats have eight starters back on a defense that has to improve. The schedule is also very favorable.

But Tuberville is a reason to be wary. Since the start of the 2008 season at Auburn he's gone just 50-38 at three different schools while failing to place a team inside the Top 25. The guy is a goof, and he can't be trusted.

That said, with seven home games (Cincinnati is 26-5 in its last 31 games at Nippert Stadium) and winnable road games at Purdue, Connecticut, Central Florida and Tulsa, I think that the Bearcats will underachieve compared to what they are capable of but still surpass their season win total. I see an 8-4 campaign.
