While the NBA took a hiatus from game action to put on a dunk show for the ages and to set the art of defensive basketball back more than 120 years, the
college game plowed full steam ahead-perhaps much to the chagrin of Oklahoma. The Sooners suffered a regular-season sweep at the hands of Big 12 rival
Kansas this past weekend, losing a thriller at home after having previously fallen at KU in triple-overtime.

Oklahoma
. In a 109-106 loss at Kansas on Jan. 4, the Sooners really announced themselves as one of the best teams in college basketball, and Buddy Hield confirmed
that he is one of the best players in the land. There were no such moral victories on Saturday, when OU went down in its own gym via a 76-72 decision.
After getting off to a slow start, the Sooners led by as many as six in the second half and still had a two-point advantage with little more than two
minutes remaining. But Devonte' Graham (27 points) of the Jayhawks drained a three and sank two late free-throws before Hield shockingly missed a potential
game-tying attempt from the charity stripe with 26 seconds left. Kansas is a -14.5 home favorite over Oklahoma State on Monday.
Leon Rice
. The Boise State head coach wants a win that rightfully belongs to his team. Last Wednesday night against Colorado State, James Webb III of the Broncos
banked in a three-pointer just prior to the overtime buzzer that should have given them an 87-85 victory. The shot was initially called good, but officials
looked at the replay and inexplicably determined that Webb did not get it off in time. Thus, the contest incorrectly went into double-overtime and Colorado
State prevailed 97-93. Two days later, the Mountain West Conference announced that the officials erred and Boise State should have won the game. "We have
an opportunity to get it right," Rice said. "….The game should be over and Boise should get the 'W'." Fortunately for the Broncos, they at least managed to
get a 'W' against Wyoming on Saturday.
Miami Heat
. The all-star break came at a good time for Miami, which has lost two in a row and is missing an injured Chris Bosh. It fell at home to the Clippers and
Spurs last week, meaning the team would not have home-court advantage in round one if the playoffs began today. As for Bosh, who could not suit up for the
three-point contest or All-Star Game, he needs additional tests this week to determine the severity of his calf strain. The Heat are +150 to win the
Southeast Division.
Chicago Blackhawks
. What the heck has happened to the Blackhawks? From late December through mid-January they won 12 straight games. Now, however, they have lost three in a
row and six of their last 10 contests. Last week featured nothing more than a trio of losses for Chicago, which fell at home to San Jose (2-0), Dallas
(4-2), and Anaheim (3-2 in overtime). The Blackhawks (77 points) are still tied atop the Western Conference with Dallas, but they have played three more
games. They are +115 home underdogs against Toronto on Monday night.
Rafael Nadal
. Nadal's 2015 campaign was a well-documented disaster. The 14-time major champion started to pick up the pace last fall, highlighted by an undefeated run
to the World Tour Finals semis. But Nadal is back in a funk to begin this season. He got blown out by Novak Djokovic in the Doha title match, fell in round
one of the Australian Open to Fernando Verdasco, and now the Spaniard is even losing on his preferred clay-court surface. Dominic Thiem upset Nadal in a
third-set tiebreaker in last week's Buenos Aires semis, saving a match point in the process. Will the former world No. 1 take solace in the fact that he
came within literally one or two inches of beating Thiem and that Thiem went on to win the tournament? Probably not.
Phil Mickelson
. Speaking of one or two inches, Mickelson came much closer than that to forcing a playoff at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am on Sunday. After a big par
save on 16 and a must-make birdie on 17, Mickelson put himself 5 feet and one inch away from a birdie on 18 that would tie him at 17-under with Vaughn
Taylor. The putt appeared to be true, but it dove left at the last instant and lipped out. Thus, it was Taylor, who has not even had a full-time PGA Tour
card since 2012, lifting the trophy. Mickelson, meanwhile, is still in search of his first victory since the 2013 British Open. Lefty is +1800 to win the
Masters.
Manchester City
. It's certainly not a great day to be Leicester City, which lost to what appears to be its primary English Premier League rival on Sunday. Arsenal pulled
out a 2-1 road victory, cutting the gap in the standings from five points to two. But, hey, at least the Foxes are still improbably atop the EPL table. Man
City, on the other hand, most definitely is not out in front. The Sky Blues, who lost to Leicester one week earlier, saw their slump continue with a 2-1
setback against Tottenham Hotspur. They tied the match at 1-1 in the 74th minute only to see Christian Eriksen of the Spurs find the back of the
net for what proved to be the game-winner nine minutes later. City remains in fourth place and five points back of the Foxes, but it is now four points
south of both Arsenal and Tottenham. That's significant ground to make up on multiple clubs. Arsenal is a +150 favorite to win the Premier League title.
