2016 Season Win Total Prediction: 'Over'
The Arizona Cardinals have the best roster in football. This is not an opinion as much as a statement of fact. Arizona has talent, depth and experience on both sides of the ball and at just about every position. They are the only team in the league that doesn't have a weakness anywhere on the 53-man roster.
That makes it all the more upsetting to know that this team has a zero percent chance of winning the Super Bowl this year.
Carson Palmer will never win a Super Bowl. Never. He is simply not good enough to win a championship because he is incapable of beating serious, top-tier defenses. The guy crumbles under pressure and makes too many split-second mistakes that lead to crippling turnovers. Palmer is a pretty good quarterback. He throws a great ball, and he is experienced. But just like Tony Romo, Palmer has proven time and time and time again that he will never be championship caliber because he always cowers and wets himself in the big moment.
Palmer is surrounded by a wealth of offensive talent. Arizona has one of the best lines in football, with three Pro Bowl-caliber players. The receiving corps is four-deep, with future Hall of Famer Larry Fitzgerald and explosive John Brown leading the way. The tight ends are versatile. And the running back group is deep and explosive. The Cardinals were the No. 1 offense in football last year and should have a Top 5 crew again if they stay healthy.
Defense is more of the same. They added Pro Bowler Chandler Jones in the offseason. And, frankly, Arizona's second unit could probably field a Top-20 defense by itself. The Cardinals are versatile, tough and fast, and they could actually improve after finishing No. 7 in points allowed last year.
Arizona was the only team in football to finish in the Top 5 in total offense and total defense. They have the best roster in the league. They have a two-time coach of the year. That is a lot of great reasons to bank on this team going 'over'.
I don't want to read too much into the preseason, but Arizona looks a tick off. Maybe they are playing possum until the regular season starts. And the Cards should start quickly. They play five of their first seven games at home and get to face the Patriots without Tom Brady. However, Arizona also closes with five of seven games on the road, including two 10 a.m. local starts, and they could be worn down by the time the playoffs roll around.
