One of the best ways to enhance your return on investment when it comes to betting on sports is diversity. Too many times sports bettors get into a comfort zone betting on just one sport. While this type of specialization can be a viable strategy, you should always be on the lookout for solid exclusive information for any bet that can put some extra cash in the overall betting bankroll.
The expert team of handicappers at Doc's Sports has made an art of using exclusive information and tips on a regular basis for a wide array of sporting events. In conjunction with Doc's Unit Betting System, sometimes their most profitable big-unit plays were for a sporting event that was not considered mainstream. With another week of hot sports action on the slate, the following insider betting tips are all geared towards helping you win some extra cash over three different betting opportunities.
Still Riding the Under Bet in the NBA Playoffs
Last week we talked about the high return that the "under" bet on the NBA total line in the playoffs had provided through the first 30 games. One of the basic rules of thumb when it comes to sports betting is when something is hot you keep riding it until in cools.
A $100 wager on the under in the first 30 NBA Playoffs games would have put a cool $1110 in your pocket. The recommendation at that time was to keep riding this trend through the end of the opening round right into the conference semifinals. Heading into Monday night's action, there has now been 46 games played, and according to the NBA betting results at Odds Shark, 31 of those games have stayed under the closing total line. This means that the same $100 wager on the under in all 46 NBA games in the postseason would have returned $1450.
One series in particular that you might want to pay attention to is Miami verses Toronto in the Eastern Conference Semifinals. Both team's opening-round series went the full seven games. The total stayed under 5Dimes' closing line in the last five games of the Heat's series against the Charlotte Hornets. It took seven games for the Raptors to get past Indiana, and the total stayed under in six of those games. This series gets underway on Tuesday night in Toronto and the total line for Game 1 has been set at 191.5.
Cruzing to Victory in Indiana
As mentioned, the Indiana Pacers were eliminated from this season's NBA Playoffs in a Game 7 loss to Toronto this past Sunday, but the hot betting action in that state early this week is the Republican race for becoming the presidential candidate between Donald Trump, Ted Cruz and John Kasich in Tuesday's primary. Betting odds from BetOnline have Trump listed as a -500 favorite against the field, which has moneyline odds of +700.
Trump is rapidly closing in on the 1237 delegates he needs to secure the Republican nominee for next November's general election, but Cruz has been pressing hard in the state of Indiana in a last ditch effort to keep his campaign alive. There are 57 delegates up for grabs in this state, and Cruz's only real hope is to secure enough of them to keep his chances alive that there may be a contested Republican Convention in Cleveland later in the year.
The big betting question is if Cruz can actually win this state on Tuesday. Bettors have lost money going against Trump in many of the past state primaries, but Cruz has pulled off a few shockers along the way. If you are looking to hedge your bets that this will be a close race between Trump and Cruz, the best way to go could be a wager on the +350 odds that the margin of victory in Indiana will be "under" six percentage points.
Three Times is the Charm Going Chalk in the Kentucky Derby
The annual "Run for the Roses" at Churchill Downs takes place this Saturday with the 2016 Kentucky Derby for the top three-year-old thoroughbreds in the nation. Two years ago, California Chrome was all the rage heading into Derby week, and after closing as the clear favorite he came through with the win.
Last season, all eyes were on American Pharoah as the overwhelming favorite to win the 2015 Kentucky Derby, and he did not disappoint. That horse was so good that he went on to win the first Triple Crown title since 1978.
The official morning line odds for this Saturday's race will not be released until the post positions are announced on Wednesday, but just about every online sportsbook has Nyquist favored to win in their latest futures odds. This three-year-old, Kentucky-bred colt is a perfect seven-for-seven in his young racing career. This includes a victory as a two-year old in the prestigious Breeders' Cup Juvenile last October at Keeneland.
His biggest victory this year was in the Grade 1 Florida Derby when he out dueled favored Mohaymen as the second choice. Right now at BetOnline you can get Nyquist at +300 odds on its Kentucky Derby futures board. Chances are you will not get 3/1 odds when the morning line is released, so now could be the time to pounce on the latest obvious favorite to win this race.
