Troy Calhoun has quietly been doing tremendous work with this Air Force program. Military academies have a lot of built-in disadvantages - not the least of which is the fact that Air Force's enrollment is 4,000 compared to say, Ohio State's, which is 57,000. But Calhoun has kept the Falcons competitive during his nine-year tenure, earning a 67-50 record while posting just one losing season.

Calhoun might have his best team yet heading into 2015. Air Force has 15 returning starters, its second-most in a decade, and features a lineup with an insane 17 senior starters and a rare future NFL player in Weston Steelhammer.

The key to Air Force's season is the healthy return of Nate Romine. Romine blew out his ACL and MCL last September. He has been on the mend but is expected to be on the field at least by the time they start league play on Sept. 24.

Air Force runs the option, so the key is their running game, where last year's returning starters (and six of their seven leading rushers) are back at tailback and fullback. The Falcons do have just two offensive line starters back. But the fill-ins are experienced upperclassmen.

Air Force has nine starters back on defense and a wealth of experience on the bench. This could be the best group since the 2009 defense that allowed just 15.7 points per game.

The Falcons came up just three points short of a major upset in the Mountain West Title Game last year. I don't think Air Force has the goods for a return trip to the title game. But they do have their biggest games in Colorado Springs, including what will be an emotional finale against Boise State.

I don't like Air Force as much as some other analysts. This team always performs better as an underdog than as a favorite. From 2010 to 2015 they have gone just 15-28 ATS as a favorite and 17-13 ATS as an underdog. They aren't under the radar anymore, and I think they will get tripped up a few times this season. But I can still see them getting to eight wins, so I will call for a 'push'.
