2015 Season Win Total Picks NCAA Football: 'Under'
Craig Bohl has plenty of FCS titles to his name. But he has a long way to go before he can get his new program to accomplish anything. The Cowboys have had three straight substandard seasons, combining to go 13-23 and serving as a nonfactor in anything beyond playing games to determine the Mountain West basement.
It doesn't look like this year will be much different.
Wyoming has only nine starters back from last year's 4-8 squad. And outside of a bizarre road upset at Fresno State - they won 45-17 as a 14-point underdog - the Cowboys were noncompetitive against the top teams. They lost to Boise State, Colorado State and Utah State by a combined 128-48 score and were -11.7 points per game on the season overall.
The Cowboys were outside the Top 100 in scoring on offense and defense and fell apart after a 3-1 start. Again, kick out that Fresno State win, and their other three victories were by a combined 10 points. Six of their eight defeats were by double-digits.
Nothing about Wyoming's first seven games tells me that they can't get off to a fast start. They get three of their first four at home, and, like last year, they could win each of them. Road games at Appalachian State and Air Force are winnable. And the season finale against UNLV should be a gimme. (Although it is probably the only game they will stay within two touchdowns of their opponent after Oct. 18.)
Assuming the opening and closing games are in the bank, the question becomes whether or not Wyoming has four more wins in them. The answer is no. Not with this group. They've reached a bowl game just three times in 22 years, and a couple of those were flukes. They won't get to .500 this year. No way. Play 'under'.
