Wisconsin Badgers Odds to Win the 2015 NCAA Tournament with Picks and Predictions
by George Monroy - 2/26/2015
The Wisconsin Badgers recently stumbled against No. 14 Maryland and suffered their third loss of the season. The blemish could drop the squad in the AP rankings, where it was sitting in the fifth spot, but might not sway the oddsamakers as Wisconsin was already receiving the second-best championship odds in the nation.
Prior to the Maryland matchup, the Badgers had not played a close game in over a month and were being driven by one of the most efficient offenses in the nation to go along with one of the best players in all of college basketball in Frank Kaminksy. Losses late in the season tend to refocus teams in the national title race, and Wisconsin's stumble against Maryland may have done just that. Let's take a closer look at Wisconsin's 2015 national title odds with predictions and analysis.
Wisconsin Badgers 2015 National Title Storylines
Wisconsin's loss to Maryland, which dropped the team to 25-3, has many media pundits questioning just how good the Badgers were to begin with even though they are coming off a Final Four appearance last season and still have one of the best players in the sport. Outside of the Maryland game, Kaminsky has been spectacular, averaging nearly 18 points, eight rebounds, and two assists per matchup while playing great defense and generally carrying the team late in games.
Wisconsin has three games left in the regular season and could still grab a No. 1 seed in the NCAA tournament if the squad can win out and capture the Big Ten title over the next few weeks. No. 4 Duke and No. 2 Virginia still have tough matchups left on the schedule and are not guaranteed to end the season without another loss. Capturing a No.1 seed in the NCAA Tournament is not imperative for the Badgers, who have a ton of big-game experience and could make another deep run from a No. 2 or No. 3 spot.
Wisconsin Badgers 2015 NCAA Tournament Odds and Trends
Wisconsin is still receiving the second-best national title odds, according to Sportsbook.ag, at +750 despite its most recently loss. The squad is clearly considered the second-best team in the nation, right behind Kentucky, who at the moment is the massive favorite to win the 2015 national title. Kentucky is receiving -120 odds, Wisconsin +750, and Duke comes in at No. 3 with +1200 odds.
This season the Badgers have been a .500 ATS team with a 7-7-1 home ATS mark and 5-5 road ATS record. The squad has been a solid "under" group by staying below its posted total in 17 of 28 matchups on the year. The key to stopping Wisconsin probably lies in shutting down Kaminsky, who leads the team all six of its major statistical categories.
Wisconsin Badgers 2015 National Title Odds and Predictions
The Badgers are one of the most experienced squads in the nation, led by one of the best and most experienced players in the sport. The team does have a tendency to rely on Kaminsky far too much, and overloading on the star forward could be the key to eliminating the team from the NCAA tournament. Betting on Wisconsin is a solid move at +750 and is probably far more enticing than wagering on Kentucky's odds at -120.
The oddsmakers seem to be more in love with Wisconsin than the rest of the nation, and because of that, sports bettors might be losing value on the team. If you are planning to wager on Wisconsin's national tile odds, waiting to see if that number moves, especially if the Badgers miss out on a No.1 seed, might be a solid idea.
