2015 Season Win Total Picks NCAA Football: 'Over'

I was on top of West Virginia going 'over' their season win total last year. Dana Holgorsen's squad quietly showed some progress and didn't take a bad loss on the season. They even played a bit of spoiler by knocking off Baylor. But, regardless, this season feels like a bit of a last stand for Holgorsen. He's reportedly a generally unlikeable person and hasn't been embraced by the Mountaineer faithful. And anything short of a breakout season could spell the end of his five-year run in Morgantown.

WVU lost two stud receivers to the NFL. But they have a healthy stable of running backs. And if Skyler Howard's final two games were any indication, they could be stable under center as well. Holgorsen teams are always pass-wacky scoring machines. But WVU could use some more efficiency, especially in regards to turnovers, if they want to take the next step.

Defensively, the Mountaineers have eight starters back from a unit that held Baylor to just 27 points and TCU to just 31. This group could be a major strength for this year's squad.

We're going to know everything we need to about WVU's season by Halloween. Their first four league games are at Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, at Baylor and at TCU. I don't know that any team in the country has a more difficult four-game stretch. They also close the season at Kansas State.

But all WVU has to do is steal two of those games and they could be set up for a big season. They aren't going to lose any of their other games, so I think they have seven in the bag with those other five games telling the tale. This team is actually set up as a sleeper in the Big 12 and will be a team to watch. I'll buy Holgorsen for this year and like WVU to go 'over'.
