2015 Season Win Total Picks NCAA Football: 'Over'

Coach Dave Clawson will have one of the youngest teams in the country - again - and it could be another ugly season in Winston-Salem. Wake Forest is obviously not a football school. But they love those football paychecks, so they will once again serve as fodder for the real teams in the rest of the sad-sack ACC.

I've seen projections that Wake Forest could have as many as 13 freshmen and sophomores starting this year. These guys aren't top recruits, either, so I expect a lot of growing pains as Clawson is building his team for two or three seasons from now. They have 13 starters back from last year. But many of those players will be pushed for their jobs by new blood.

I know it sounds ridiculous, but Wake actually has an opportunity to beat their season win total before October hits. Home games against Elon and Indiana are winnable. And road games at Syracuse and at Army aren't out of reach, either. I don't think Wake is that together to get all four games. But I can see this team matching last year's win total in this season's first month.

From there the question is where an ACC win comes from. Last year they won one of the worst college football games of all time as they upset Virginia Tech 6-3 in double overtime (and that's not a misprint). Do they have another one of those in them this year? I don't know.

This is a dreadful team in a gross conference. But I think Wake could spring an upset against one of its fellow Tar Heel State opponents. That, coupled with a strong start, could push Wake 'over' this year.
