Not even God knows what Mike London is doing in Virginia. London - who I never thought was a bad coach - has gone 23-38 in his five years in Charlottesville and is coming off his third straight losing season. Virginia has made it to just one bowl game in the past seven years, and if the returning talent is any indication then things could get worse before they get better.

Virginia has just four returning offensive starters, and three of them are on the line. The skill positions are being completely reshuffled, outside of leading returning receiver Canaan Severin, and the Cavs lost most of their rushing and receiving yards from last year. The defense, capably coordinated by Jon Tenuta, remains unheralded yet fierce. Six starters are back this season, including three from a defensive line that anchored the No. 18 rush defense in the nation. The other three are in the secondary, and they need to get better in a hurry; Virginia was just No. 72 against the pass last year.

Virginia's early-season schedule is harrowing. They have to travel across the country to face UCLA in the opener and then have home dates with two Top 15 teams in Notre Dame and Boise State. A regional game with William & Mary is tucked in there as well, and there's no way the Cavs will take that one seriously.

The ACC is not good at all (again) this year. But the only team on UVA's league schedule that they will definitely be favored over is Syracuse on Oct. 17. That game and the W&M game are the closest things to a sure win that Virginia has. And I don't see any way they win three other league games (assuming they get swept in their big nonconference tilts). This one is really an easy call for me. 'Under' is the only way to play it.
