2015 Season Win Total Picks NCAA Football: 'Over'
Huskies fans have to be wondering just where the bottom is for this program. Their 2011 Fiesta Bowl appearance must seem like a lifetime ago, and the Huskies have seen their win total drop or stay the same for seven straight years. Bob Diaco inherited a 3-9 nightmare heading into last season…and turned in an even worse 2-10 showing despite playing in a watered-down conference.
The biggest culprit in Connecticut's descent has been their absolutely pathetic offense. In this young century I don't know that I can recall a worse four-year stretch of quarterback play than what we've seen out of Storrs. And unless transfer Bryant Shirreiffs is some savior I expect the Huskies to again field one of the worst offenses in the country. They were No. 123 in total offense and No. 122 in scoring offense last year.
Connecticut's defense has been much better than its numbers suggest, constantly being hung out to dry by their decrepit attack. Diaco is a defensive coach, so I expect them to be solid on that side of the ball again.
The Huskies are still a terrible football program in a part of the country that doesn't take college football all that seriously. They have a steep hill to climb, even in one of the worst conferences in the country. There really just aren't a lot of winnable games on the schedule, and UConn will likely be the underdog in 10 of the 12 games they play this year.
I think I'd stay far away from this win total because they only need one or two breaks to go there way in order to go 'over'. And in the AAC, where no one is that solid, I don't think an upset or two is out of the question. I'd take a soft 'over' on the Huskies simply because I don't see how they can get worse.
