I predicted a 2-10 flop for the Green Wave last year and was pretty close as Tulane went just 3-9 and were one of the best teams to bet against in college football (4-8 against the spread). The Green Wavy have the potential to be better this year, but I'm still not buying into this group of overachievers.

It is pathetic that Tulane's No. 107 total offense actually represented progress for this team. But it did. And Tulane has nine starters back from that group. The tricky part is that five of those nine - the quarterback, running back, two top receivers and tight end - are all sophomores. Yes, they gained valuable experience as freshmen last year. But sophomore performance is the most difficult to predict. And quarterback Tanner Lee needs to show a ton of improvement for this offense to have any hope.

The biggest obstacle facing the Green Wave this year is a relentless schedule. They have to face Duke, Georgia Tech and Central Florida in the first month of the season. And even though two of those games are at home, Tulane will be healthy underdogs in each. There's a pretty real chance that the Green Wave start 1-5. And if they steal a win and begin 2-4 they're still facing four of their next five games on the road. Even if we give Tulane wins over their weakest opponents - Maine, Army, SMU and Tulsa - they would still need to pull two upsets to top their season win number. I don't see it.

Tulane will be better this year. But the results are more likely to show up in their ATS record than their actual win-loss mark. This one isn't as comically easy as last year's call, but I'm still playing the Green Wave 'under'.
