2015 Season Win Total Picks NCAA Football: 'Under'
Oh Troy. Troy, Troy, Troy. It wasn't long ago that the Trojans were the toast of the Sun Belt. They won eight or more games six times in a seven-year stretch from 2004 to 2010, playing in five bowl games along the way. But the Trojans have fallen on hard times and have struggled to a 17-31 mark over the past four years and been a non-factor in this league.
It doesn't look like things are going to get any easier this time around. The Trojans have 13 returning starters back. But they were No. 105 in scoring offense and No. 111 in scoring defense last year while also flopping to No. 100 in total offense and No. 107 in total defense. So the starters are back. But they stunk last year, and the league is much more difficult this time around. I wouldn't expect a sea of change.
Troy's nonconference slate is loaded with paycheck games. They have to travel to North Carolina State, Wisconsin, and Mississippi State within their first five games. Those brutal tilts are wrapped around some winnable home games. But how much of a beating will the Trojans take against those big-time foes?
It is difficult to decipher how difficult their Sun Belt schedule looks because this is a parity-driven league. But they have to play on the road against two of the better teams (Appalachian State and Lafayette), and two other games come against teams that will be off a bye week (Idaho and Georgia Southern).
I think that the ceiling for this team is four wins. They weren't very good last year, and they have a new head coach, Neal Brown, who is breaking in new systems. This is Brown's first head coaching job, and there is no way to know how the upperclassmen will take to his approach. I'd play Troy 'under'.
