2015 Season Win Total Picks NCAA Football: 'Over'

Charlie Strong came in and cleaned house in his first season in Austin. Texas struggled to a 6-7 record and ended the year with an embarrassing bowl blowout loss to Arkansas. But Strong appears to be laying the foundation for his program. Year 2 may not be significantly more successful than Year 1, though, and Texas is still very much a third-tier power at the moment.

Texas graduated a load of seniors from last year's squad, and, combined with the players that left the program since Strong arrived, that means the roster is a bit of a mish mash. They do have strengths on the offensive line and in the secondary. But unless Tyrone Swoopes (or freshman Jerrod Heard) are a lot better than I think they are, the Longhorns offense is still going to be an ugly mess.

The Longhorns start off with a trip to South Bend against a Top 10 Notre Dame team. I do think that game will be a battle. But it's a battle Texas will lose. The good news, though, is that trip is Texas' only journey out of The Lone Star State until Week 8. After Notre Dame the Longhorns have a three-game homestand against Rice, Cal and Oklahoma State. Cal and OSU play very similar styles, and neither will be a pushover. The following two weeks will be season-defining games at TCU and at Oklahoma before hosting Kansas State.

It is not unrealistic to think that Texas could be 2-4 heading into their bye week. They do have a much more manageable second half of the year. But they also have road trips to West Virginia and Baylor waiting at the back end. I see a .500 team, at best, and all the value here is on the 'under'.
