2015 Season Win Total Picks NCAA Football: 'Over'
The Orange were supposed to take a step forward in Scott Shafer's second season. But Syracuse couldn't overcome an absolutely brutal schedule last season and enter the 2015 season with a lot more questions than answers.
Syracuse does have a senior QB in Terrel Hunt. However, he is one of the worst passing quarterbacks in the country. SU has four of five offensive line starters back. But this group averaged just 17.1 points per game last year (No. 118), and I don't see where they are going to improve in the attack. The defense was outstanding last year in spite of a horror-show offense. But Syracuse has just three defensive starters back and will be building from scratch.
SU has four home games to open the year and build some momentum. But here is how sad this program is: September home games against Wake Forest and Central Michigan can't be considered easy wins. In fact, I bet Syracuse will lose one of those two games before getting demolished by LSU.
After the LSU game, Syracuse plays four of its next five on the road. I can see them stealing one win from that group of five games. But I don't see them winning more than one of their last three games.
As bad as Syracuse is, their win total is perched pretty low. The ACC is awful. And while you can't pencil in home wins for SU against bad teams, you also can't assume the Orange will automatically lose road games at South Florida or Virginia. I wouldn't bet a dime on this total. But if I did I think I would hold my nose and take Syracuse to go 'over'.
