2015 Season Win Total Picks NCAA Football: 'Over'
Last season snapped a three-year streak of 11 wins per season for the Gamecocks. They'll be looking to bounce back this season, but Steve Spurrier wasn't overly complimentary of his group coming out of spring practice.
The Gamecocks must replace eight starters on an offense that averaged 32.6 points per game. They haven't committed to a starting quarterback, and just two of their receivers have ever caught a pass in a USC uniform. The offensive line is also a mess, and this group is nearly impossible to handicap until we see them live.
USC does have eight returning starters on defense. That's the good news. The bad news is that this same group contributed to the No. 89 scoring defense and No. 92 total defense last year. That weak stop unit contributed to a 1-4 midseason slide that sunk their 2014.
South Carolina has two tricky nonconference games against North Carolina and Central Florida. They also drew LSU (at home) and Texas A&M (on the road) out of the West. The Cocks also have to travel to Georgia, Missouri and Tennessee to face the three top teams in the East. USC does have a three-game homestand to close the year. But to have a shot at topping this season win total they would need to have five wins in the bag and then pull a sweep to close out (including wins over Florida and Clemson).
I don't see USC getting to eight wins during the regular season. I have them pegged at either 6-6 or 7-5, so the only way to play this one is 'under'.
