2015 Season Win Total Picks NCAA Football: 'Over'
If we use South Alabama's season win total number as an indicator then things should be ugly for the Jaguars this year. Last season they went up against a 6.5 win total and came up short. Now that number is cut nearly in half, and a four-win season would be considered a success for a team that's won six or more in four of the last five years.
South Alabama has just five returning starters back this year, the lowest number in the country. Fourteen of their projected starters are seniors, though, so there could be more talent here than people realize.
Also, no team in the country benefitted more from UAB's decision to dissolve (then later reinstate) their football program. South Alabama picked up eight UAB transfers (and an offensive coordinator) who will actually be stepping down in competition from Conference USA to the Sun Belt. One of those transfers is starting quarterback Cody Clements, who originally went to Washington State.
South Alabama went just 4-9 against the spread last season and has to open with a tough September stretch at Nebraska, at San Diego State and against North Carolina State. That could further deflate their value heading into league play.
USA is a very tough team to handicap this year because we don't know how the transfers will mesh with the few holdovers. But I do think this team will get at least four wins, and I will call for them to go 'over'.
