2015 Las Vegas Season Win Total: 6.5

The San Francisco 49ers had by far the worst offseason of any team in the NFL and, honestly, one of the worst offseasons of any team in recent memory. They ran their outstanding coach - and his excellent assistants -- out of town, and the front office oversaw a roster purge created by free agency, retirement, arrests and suspensions. It was a complete debacle, and the only question that remains is if the Niners have hit rock bottom yet.

I want to believe that this season won't be as ugly as everyone is predicting. There is still some top-end talent, with a handful of Pro Bowl-caliber players and some capable veterans on both sides of the ball. The 49ers are going to be bad this year. But the question is whether they will be 6-10 or 7-9 bad or if we're going to be looking at a complete collapse during a three- or four-win season.

Offensively this team was a major underachiever last year. They added Torrey Smith and Reggie Bush to an attack that features an above average quarterback and line, Anquan Boldin, and Vernon Davis. They should be much more efficient than last year's group, which averaged a feeble 19.1 points per game while finishing No. 25 in yards per point.

The defense, the cornerstone of this team over the last five years, has been gutted. They lost a load of talent in the linebacking corps, and the 49ers have turned over pretty much the entire secondary. Inconsistency is going to be a major issue.

But the bigger problem is the negative karma that surrounds this team. For the past four seasons San Francisco entered the year as one of the NFC favorites. They won't be even close to that this year. And how will this team hold up late in the season when they are not in the playoff picture? A late bye week and a brutal late-season schedule certainly don't help, and there is only one way to play this season win total: under.
