2015 Season Win Total Picks NCAA Football: 'Under'
I predicted last year that Rutgers would easily surpass their modest expectations in their first trip through the Big Ten. The Scarlet Knights have been a quietly solid program for a decade now. They recruit tough, hard-nosed, physical kids to come to Jersey, so they will have no problem banging heads in this league. However, this would've been a rebuilding year no matter what conference they were in, and the Knights should struggle in 2015.
Rutgers lost a four-year starter at quarterback and has just 10 returning starters back overall. They are one of the least experienced teams in the country this year and are starting from scratch on both sides of the ball.
The Scarlet Knights also have one of the toughest schedules in the league. They have to take on four of the top six teams, which are all in the East. As if that wasn't bad enough, they drew the other two top teams from the West in Wisconsin and Nebraska.
I still think Rutgers will play good Big Ten teams tough. But they won't win many games. In order to beat this season win total they need to sweep their three home nonconference games. That's doable. But then they also need to sweep games at Indiana, at Army and against Maryland.
Those are all winnable games. But they need to be perfect to get there. I don't think it happens. I had Rutgers perfectly pegged last year. And this season I think the Scarlet Knights are going to stick at five wins. But if I had to make a play here I would take 'under'.
