Quick: name the Pittsburgh Panthers head coach. Can't do it? Don't feel badly. If you count interim coaches then new headman Pat Narduzzi is the sixth coach of the Panthers since the start of the 2010 season. That lack of cohesion and consistency is the main reason why they have been a .500 program over the last five seasons.

This year's team is dominated by upperclassmen and was really set up to be former coach Paul Chryst's breakout group. They have a Heisman Trophy candidate in running back James Conner and an All-American candidate in receiver Tyler Boyd. Defensively they only have five starters back from an underachieving group. Their main area of focus needs to be creating turnovers; the team was -5 in turnover margin last season.

Narduzzi won't get much of a chance to make an impression for the home faithful. Pittsburgh only plays two home games the first seven weeks of the season. And their road schedule is pretty rough with trips to Iowa, Virginia Tech and Georgia Tech. They do close with four of five at home. But none of those games are gimmes.

Even with Conner and Boyd it is going to be a struggle for Pitt. There are a lot of bad teams in the ACC, but it doesn't seem like Pitt plays many of them. Their trip to Iowa - who isn't any good - is a big swing game. Regardless, I think Pitt will manage exactly six wins, and I will call for them to 'push'.
