A whole new set of MLB three-game matchups kick off this weekend's action, and Bookmaker has you covered with series price odds for all the games. Betting series prices can sometime offer the best value on the MLB betting board, and after going through the key stats, facts and figures, I have uncovered a trio of solid opportunities in to cash in on these best-of-three weekend sets.
The following is a brief handicapping breakdown and free picks for my top three series prices for this weekend's MLB action starting this Friday night.
San Diego Padres (-105) vs. Arizona Diamondbacks (-115)
The Padres come into this NL West tilt with just four wins in their last 12 games, and this past week they dropped three of four to Oakland in an interleague home-and-home series. While San Diego did salvage a 3-1 victory on Thursday night as a +119 road underdog, it was outscored 32-11 by the last-place team in the AL West. At 33-36 on the year, the Padres are now a game and a half behind the Diamondbacks in fourth-place in the NL West.
Arizona salvaged a 2-2 split in their interleague series against the Los Angeles Angels this week with a 7-1 romp on Thursday as a -103 home favorite. This followed a three-game sweep of San Francisco on the road this past weekend, so this team's current form remains pretty solid. I give the Diamondbacks the early edge in Friday's Game 1 as -106 favorites at home, and I have them taking Game 2 against the Padres on Saturday as well to clinch the series with a red-hot Robbie Ray on the mound as their starter.
San Francisco Giants (+170) vs Los Angeles Dodgers (-200)
The Giants come into this NL West rivalry with just two wins in their last eight games. This week they earned a 2-2 split against Seattle in that home-and-home interleague matchup. The good news is that they did outscore the Mariners 13-2 in the two victories, but their bats went extremely quiet in the six losses with a total of just seven runs. San Francisco is 7-2 against the Dodgers this season, but it was on the wrong end of a 2-1 series loss to their bitter rivals on the road in late-April.
Los Angeles comes into Friday's Game 1 against the Giants as a solid -145 home favorite to take the early edge in this three-game clash. It needed a 1-0 victory on Thursday night as a heavy -249 home favorite to avoid a sweep at the hands of Texas this week after winning five of its six previous games. While both of these teams have struggled with consistency in their last few series, I am going to defer to the home team despite the high risk/reward on the series price in what should be another heated matchup at Dodger Stadium. The home team has won nine of the last 10 games in this matchup and, going back even further, the Giants are just 1-4 in their last five road games against Los Angeles.
Houston Astros (-120) vs. Seattle Mariners (+100)
Houston continues to set the pace in the AL West at 40-28 on the year following this week's four-game sweep of Colorado. This was after it posted a 2-1 series victory over the Mariners at home this past weekend. The 10-0 shutout of Seattle in Game 1 of that series as +122 home underdogs snapped an unexpected seven-game losing streak, but the team's play since that slide appears to have the Astros back on track. They have a good shot at gaining the early edge on the Mariners this time around as well as -112 road favorites for Game 1 with Lance McCullers on the mound. The right-hander is 3-1 this season with a 2.00 ERA.
The Mariners' 2-2 split against San Francisco this week has them 30-37 on the year and 9.5 games in back of the Astros in the division race. Any hopes of making up some ground this weekend have to be tempered with a 2-8 record against their division rivals in 10 previous meetings this season. They could also have their hands full against Houston's McCullers on Friday and Dallas Keuchel (2.04 ERA) on Saturday night given that this lineup is ranked last in the AL in runs scored. Seattle will counter with Roenis Elias (3.67 ERA) on Friday and Taijuan Walker (5.00 ERA) in Game 2 as its starters, which only cements my pick of Houston to win this series as well.
