2014 Record: 7-9

2015 Las Vegas Season Win Total: 7.5

Entering the 2014 season the St. Louis Rams appear to be Everyone's Sleeper Team in the NFC. Every pseudo-analyst and bobblehead in the country is pimping the Rams as a potential out-of-nowhere team with a realistic chance to make the playoffs. Well, they can keep the Rams; I'll take the Minnesota Vikings.

I really like this Minnesota team and I think that Mike Zimmer is laying a great foundation in the Twin Cities. The Vikings won seven games last year despite a rookie quarterback, a first-year head coach, a host of crippling offensive injuries, and a mammoth distraction and depletion caused by Adrian Peterson's yearlong absence. Things can't possibly go that poorly for Zimmer in Year 2.

The Vikings get AP and Kyle Rudolph back while also adding Mike Wallace this offseason. If Teddy Bridgewater continues to improve and the offensive line can withstand the loss of Phil Loadholt then the Vikings offense will be much better than the group that averaged just 20 points per game last year. This is also their second year in Norv Turner's system, and I expect at least a jump of five points per game.

Defensively, Zimmer straightened out a group that was the worst in football in 2013. Last year's group shaved their points allowed by 8.6 points per game. Now they have stars at all three levels of the D, and if they improve they could break into the Top 10 in the NFL. Sharif Floyd and Everson Griffen are studs on the line, Chad Greenway is one of the most underrated linebackers in football, and Harrison Smith is one of the best safeties in the league.

Minnesota's biggest obstacle is that their schedule is significantly more difficult this season, increasing 15 slots in the league rankings. They have a nice soft spot in November. But they have to face Seattle and travel to Arizona and Green Bay in the final month, so I don't see them making a playoff move.

I would play the Vikings 'under'. I think they stay static this year and reach seven wins again. But they'll be primed for a potential leap forward in 2016, and I expect Minnesota to be a very live underdog this season.
