2015 Season Win Total Picks NCAA Football: 'Over'

Sparty has become a juggernaut in the Big Ten. After decades as an entertaining-but-underachieving sideshow in the league, Michigan State has become a Top 10 staple. And if Ohio State slips up at all this season then the Spartans are the team that may be best equipped to win the Big Ten title.

Quarterback Connor Cook took another step forward last season and propelled the Spartans into the Top 10 in scoring and led the No. 11 total offense in the land. However, he'll have to get it done without his three top running backs and top two wideouts. Fortunately, Michigan State has four of five linemen back along with big tight end Josiah Price.

Michigan State has risen in the ranks because of its defense. Their front seven is outstanding and was No. 1 against the rush last year. Five of the seven starters are back. The Spartans dominated everyone except Oregon and Ohio State, the two best offenses they faced. Both teams are on the schedule again this year, though, so they'll need to see some improvement.

Michigan State gets its huge nonconference game against Oregon in East Lansing. If they win that they should be 6-0 when they head to Ann Arbor to face their in-state rivals. They also have to go to Nebraska and to Ohio State later in the year. That means they have four losable games on the dance card.

I definitely do not think Michigan State is as good as they were last year when they went 11-2. But I also have a hard time seeing them losing three games. They are going to settle down around nine or 10 wins, so this is a good season win total number for them. I wouldn't bet it. But if I did I would lean on recent form to hold and see Sparty get to double-digit wins.
