2015 Season Win Total Picks NCAA Football: 'Under'
Last year I predicted that the Terps would be more competitive in the Big Ten than they were being given credit for. They responded with a respectable 4-4 league record and a 7-5 regular season that featured wins at Penn State and Michigan. It was a great rookie campaign for the program in their new home. But it's going to be much tougher sledding in Year 2 in the Big Ten.
Maryland has just nine total returning starters, and they have to replace do-it-all quarterback C.J. Brown. They are shifting to a 4-3 defense and have just one guy back in the front seven.
The Terps get four of their first five games at home. However, only one of those games (Richmond) is a shoo-in win for this rebuilding group. Maryland has a tough trip to West Virginia followed by a brutal start to their Big Ten campaign. In fact, I am predicting that the Terps will start 0-6 in league play before two winnable games against Indiana and Rutgers to close the season.
Randy Edsall is just 20-30 in his four years in College Park and hasn't proven that he can elevate this program. Their Big Ten slate is more than just about anyone could handle. Maryland wasn't competitive against the top teams on its schedule last year. I don't expect it to be better in 2015.
I think Maryland will win four regular season games, with an early-season upset loss setting the tone for an ugly season. Play 'under'.
