March Madness Prop Bet Predictions and Analysis
by George Monroy - 3/19/2015
March Madness prop bets are a great way to mix up your betting action by wagering on something that could last the entire tournament and provide a little bit of entertainment to go along with the daily grind of wagering on individual games. Prop bets can be a shot in the dark at times yet could still an essential part of making a profit during the NCAA tournament .Let's take a closer look at a few of the best and most interesting NCAA prop betsfrom Bovada and Sportsbook.ag with predictions and analysis.
Will a No. 1 Seed Win the 2015 Men's National Title (Kentucky, Duke, Villanova, Wisconsin)
Yes -200
No +165
A No. 1 seed has won the national title in seven of the last 10 tournaments, and this wager could be a safe way to get value. 2015 already seems like a strong year for No. 1 seeds with Kentucky chasing the first undefeated season in almost 40 years and Wisconsin playing nearly as dominant with perhaps the best player in the nation in Frank Kaminsky. Villanova may be the weakest No. 1 seed of the bunch, but it also has any easy road to the Final Four, so wagering on a top seed to win the national title at -200 feels like a steal.
How Many Games Will The No. 2 Seeds Win (Arizona, Kansas, Virginia, Gonzaga)
10.5 wins
The "under" on 10.5 wins is a slight favorite at -125 at Sportsbook.ag and feels like the way to go on this wager. A best-case scenario for the No. 2 squads is probably 11 wins, unless one of the teams makes a national title appearance. Arizona is expected to grab three or four wins and then get eliminated just short of the national title. Gonzaga is on course for an early exit, and two wins is probably the best that it can hope for. Kansas and Virginia both have difficult brackets, and the Jayhawks will almost certainly lose in the projected Sweet 16 matchup against Notre Dame and grab only two wins. Essentially this bet will probably come down to how far Virginia can make it. Take the under on 10.5.
Will Kentucky Win the 2015 NCAA Title and Win All Six Games by 10 points or more?
Yes: +500
No: -800
Taking the "No" on this wager is just insane. Yes, it is the strong favorite, but it feels useless to tie up so much of your bankroll hoping that Kentucky plays a close game. The "yes" has value simply based on the odds alone. What if the Wildcats are really an "all-time" team and run through the tournament without a challenge. The squad closed out the season by winning 11 of 12 matchups by double-digits, and completing that feat in the tournament would not be shocking. If you are looking to speculate, the 'yes' is a great bet to make.
Will Kentucky Win the 2015 National Title and the Republican or Democrats win the 2016 Presidential elections?
Kentucky and the Republicans: +500
Kentucky and the Democrats: +200
The funniest and most out-of-the-box prop bet has to be Bovada's Kentucky and the 2016 Presidential election. I am not sure how many people will actually make this bet. However, if you are looking to stay in action for a year and a half then this is the wager for you. Of course, Kentucky and the Democrats are the favorite at +200, but there probably is value on the Republican side of the wager with Hillary Clinton currently involved in a State Department email scandal.
Which No. 1 Seed Will be the First to Be Eliminated?
Villanova: +150
Wisconsin: +200
Duke: +300
Kentucky: +700
Wisconsin is on a collision course to face Arizona in the Elite Eight, while Kentucky is expected to cruise into another Final Four appearance. Duke could have trouble in the Sweet 16 against Georgetown and will definitely have a game on its hands against Iowa State in the Elite Eight (if there are no major upsets). Villanova has the biggest question mark on its back heading into the tournament and will run into Louisville in the Sweet 16, which could be the spot where its tournament ends.
