2015 Season Win Total Picks NCAA Football: 'Over'

LSU was the rare SEC team whose season win total prediction I couldn't connect on. But a big part of my miss (I predicted that the 8-5 Tigers would win at least nine games) revolves around the fact that LSU lost more than three games for the first time since 2009 and just the third time since 2001.

An extremely young LSU team took its lumps last year. But now the Tigers have 14 starters back and some new blood at key positions. Les Miles has another group loaded with strength and speed, and the Tigers will again be a player in the West.

LSU doesn't have much of a breaking-in period this year as they play two crucial divisional games in their first three contests of the season. They travel to Mississippi State (whom the Tigers lost to in Baton Rouge last year) in Week 2 and then host Auburn in Week 3. Most teams have two or three nonconference games leading into league play. But LSU is being thrown right into the fire and then follow that up with cupcakes at Syracuse and against Eastern Michigan.

With McNeese State, Syracuse, EMU and Western Kentucky all on the slate, the Tigers are guaranteed four wins. That means they just have to split their league games - and they crossover with South Carolina and Florida, so I think that's two wins right there - in order to take a 'push' on this very manageable total. LSU will likely be favored over Arkansas and Texas A&M at home as well, so I have a hard time predicting that they won't get to nine regular-season victories.

I think that LSU has an opportunity to go 9-3 this regular season, losing against Auburn, Alabama and Ole Miss. Even if they get upset by Arkansas or A&M, it would still only equal a 'push' on this total. So all the value is on LSU playing 'over' the total.
