2015 Season Win Total Picks NCAA Football: 'Under'

Bobby Petrino returned to Louisville with a load of fanfare last fall. And he made good on his prediction that he would raise the Cardinals back to prominence, winning nine games heading into the bowl game. However, with just nine returning starters and a completely overhauled defense, this has the look of a transition season for a program that's gone 20-5 in the last two campaigns.

Louisville thinks it has its quarterback in sophomore Reggie Bonnafon. But they have four other options that I think Petrino will give a shot at one point or another. The Cards also have to replace their best receivers and three starting offensive linemen. The losses are even steeper on the defensive side, and every game that goes by they are further and further away from being the dominant group that Charlie Strong built.

This rebuilding squad is being thrown right into the fire with an opener against Auburn in Atlanta. It doesn't get a ton easier after that as they host Houston in a letdown/look ahead spot and they face conference power Clemson. An 0-3 start isn't unrealistic. Then they get to beat up on Samford but then have to play three of four on the road.

The makeup of Louisville's schedule is tricky. But their opponents aren't. The Cards will likely be favored in games against Houston, Samford, Boston College, Wake Forest, Syracuse and Virginia. And they won't be dogged by much at Kentucky. That's seven potential wins right there. And Bobby Petrino teams are always good for an upset or two.

However, I think that 7.5 is an ambitious number for a group that is so raw. They're one of the youngest teams on the East Coast, and they don't have a quarterback. Petrino will work his magic and get this team into a bowl (where they will be dangerous). But eight wins is a lot to ask for a team that I have at 2-4 in mid-October. Play 'under'.
