2015 Season Win Total Picks NCAA Football: 'Over'
The Warhawks have been a menace versus major conference teams over the past three years with wins over Arkansas and Wake Forest (twice) and near-misses against Auburn and Baylor. However, UL-M has seen its record worsen the past two seasons, and coach Todd Berry is starting to feel some pressure heading into his sixth year.
UL-M returns 14 starters, including eight from one of the best defenses in the conference. They also have 12 senior starters on the squad, with most of them at the skill positions and in the front seven. But if Monroe is going to surge forward they will need a lot more from an offense that scored just 20.1 points per game and averaged just 350 yards per outing.
I wouldn't expect a fast start, though, as UL-M has to play at Georgia and at Alabama in the opening month. They also have to travel out to Oklahoma to face Tulsa in an ugly sandwich situation between two of the best Sun Belt teams (Georgia Southern and Appalachian State) at the start of conference play.
I think that a 1-5 start is not only possible but also probable. It doesn't get much easier after that as they have to play five of their next six games on the road, including a Thanksgiving trip out to Hawaii.
Monroe is going to pull a couple upsets. That's just what they do. And armed with the best defense in the league they could be a potential surprise team. But this schedule is just too much for them to do much. I will go with a slight lean on the 'over'. But if they get to five wins it will be an impressive feat.
