Paul Rhodes has kept Iowa State respectable for as long as he could. But the fact is that this program needs some new blood. They are coming off an ugly two-win showing last year, and with just 11 starters back I don't see a lot of upside this season.

Iowa State has just one returning starter in the front seven on defense. But that actually might be a blessing since last year's group ranked dead last in the country in total defense. The Cyclones simply aren't equipped to handle the constant onslaught from Big 12 offenses.

If the Cyclones don't have three wins in their first four games they aren't getting to three wins. They face Northern Iowa, Iowa and Kansas all in Ames. Although they did beat Iowa on the road last year, the Cyclones have historically played the role of the nail in that series. And that UNI game is no gimme either; Iowa State lost to FCS's North Dakota State in last year's opener.

I think it would be an amazing coaching job if Rhodes could get this team to four wins. But barring a couple miracle upsets - do you see them winning at Oklahoma, Kansas State or West Virginia? Me neither. - there is simply no way this group can muster four wins to get 'over' this total. I actually think the Cyclones will 'push' on this one. But the only way to bet it is 'under'.
