2015 Season Win Total Picks NCAA Football: 'Under'
I really have no idea how Kirk Ferentz still has a job. Iowa had one of the easiest schedules in the country last year and was basically handed nine regular-season wins. Instead they flopped their way to 7-5 and then got wrecked by Tennessee in the bowl game. I don't see how this season is going to be any better.
Iowa has just four starters back on offense, and they don't have a quarterback. Yes, the backups that will be sliding in are mostly seniors. But these guys were mediocre on that side of the ball last season, and with the players they lost I don't see how they'll be better.
The Hawkeyes defense has three starters back in the secondary, where they were ranked No. 7 in the nation against the pass. But they lost a pair of big-time defensive tackles and two of their starting linebackers. They were No. 22 in total defense last year but just No. 50 in scoring defense.
Iowa's schedule this season is only moderately more difficult than last year's joke of a slate. They start with three of four at home, and the lone road game is at rival Iowa State, whom they have dominated for the past 15 years. Iowa also dodges Ohio State, Michigan State, Penn State and Michigan from the East, instead drawing the two worst teams from that division (Maryland and Indiana) again this year.
I think that Iowa is awful. But for some reason they continue to get dealt perfect scheduling hands. They aren't going to win at Wisconsin or Nebraska. But the only home game they are really in danger of losing is the Minnesota game. Regardless, if they couldn't get to eight wins last year in the regular season, I don't see it happening this season. Play this team 'under'.
