2015 Season Win Total Picks NCAA Football: 'Under'
Last year the Hoosiers entered the season thinking they had enough firepower to snap their seven-year bowl-less streak and make their second postseason appearance in 22 years. However, quarterback Nate Sudfeld got injured early, and they gave away a must-win game against Bowling Green in Week 2. Things got away from them in league play, and Indiana was a dead-man walking by November.
Sudfeld is back. But sensational running back Tevin Coleman is not. Indiana did pick up a decent replacement in UAB transfer Jordan Howard, though. And with four starters back on the offensive line they should still be able to generate some offense.
Their big problem is that their defense has been pathetic the past several seasons. They have just five starters back and are completely rebuilding the secondary.
Indiana starts the season with three easy home games before a very winnable road game at Wake Forest. If they are 4-0 going into Big Ten play they have a shot at .500 and a bowl game. They get Rutgers and Iowa at home and have two winnable road games in November at Maryland and Purdue. IU needs just two of those four games to have a shot at six wins.
And I think that Indiana can do just that. I think they will get to six wins. But six wins only. I wouldn't bet this total. But if I did I would actually play it 'under'. They've only won more than five games one time in the past 20 years, so that's the only way to play it.
