Heading into Week 4 of the NFL season there were still 10 undefeated or winless teams against the spread, and after the dust cleared on Sunday only four remained. Arizona and Denver finally dropped a spread, while Detroit and Oakland finally covered one. Baltimore and Pittsburgh-one was coverless and the other undefeated-played to a push on Sunday, and even though their records remain intact, we will skip them in this article. Let's take a closer look at remaining winless and unblemished teams and figure out which streaks will continue and which will not.
Green Bay Packers
Record : 4-0 ATS, 4-0 SU
Up Next : versus St. Louis
Spread : Green Bay -10
Green Bay is certainly one of the top two teams in the NFL at the moment, and the squad may be on course for a three-loss-or-better season. Quarterback Aaron Rodgers is at the top of his game, and the team's defensive star, Clay Matthews, hasn't played this well since Green Bay's Super Bowl-winning season nearly five years ago. The Packers are covering lines at an average of five points per game but will host a very good St. Louis team that already owns wins over Seattle and Arizona. Rodgers and his offense were able to score only 17 points last week against San Francisco, and this week feels like a prime spot for the team to not cover the spread. Prediction: Green Bay should win this game by at least a touchdown. Expect a close matchup where a last-second score decides the ATS outcome.
Atlanta Falcons
Record : 4-0 ATS. 4-0 SU
Up Next : versus Washington
Spread : Atlanta -7.5
Atlanta may be the surprise team of season as it managed to put up huge numbers yet again last week against Houston. The team is currently ranked Top 5 in passing yards, points scored and field goal percentage-an impressive feat for a squad and many experts believed would produce another sub-.500 season. Washington, on the other hand, has played surprisingly well over the first four games and is coming off a solid victory over an increasingly-disappointing Philadelphia squad. The Redskins have been excellent on defense and rank in the Top 10 four categories-fewest total yards, passing yards, rushing yards and points allowed. Prediction: Atlanta has played well, but they are not the Green Bay Packers. Expected Washington to stay close and break Atlanta's ATS streak.
Cincinnati Bengals
Record : 4-0 ATS, 4-0 SU
Up Next : versus Seattle
Spread : Cincinnati -1
Cincinnati has been nothing short of impressive through four games and has produced an offense that ranks in the Top 7 in total yards gained, passing yards, rushing yards and points scored. The trouble for Cincinnati's current ATS win streak, however, comes in a bottle named the Seattle Seahawks. The defending NFC champions lost the first two games and realize there is no time to play around over the next few weeks. The Seahawks are currently ranked second in fewest yards allowed, fifth in fewest passing yards and points allowed, and seventh in fewest rushing yards allowed. Prediction: Seattle is improving every week and will be motivated to hand the Bengals a loss on Sunday.
Winless Teams
Indianapolis Colts
Record : 0-4 ATS, 2-2 SU
Up Next : at Houston
Spread : Off the board
With Detroit covering a 10-point spread on Monday Night, Indianapolis is the only team with a 0-4 ATS mark. Andrew Luck was forced to miss last week's matchup against Jacksonville because of a shoulder injury, and the team continues to struggle on both ends of the ball. This week's line is still off the board, but chances are the Colts will still open as a road favorite against Houston. Prediction: Indianapolis will eventually cover a spread, and this week is as good as any to do it.
