The Gonzaga Bulldogs dropped their final game of the season to a BYU squad that might not even qualify for the NCAA tournament in a few weeks. The loss, which came only days before the postseason is set to begin, broke the Bulldogs 21-game winning streak and an even bigger 41-game home winning streak, which was the longest in the nation and lasted just over two years. The BYU upset may not be a larger indicator of something wrong with the squad, but it was still a disappointing way to end the regular season.

Gonzaga, however, might use the upset as a way to refocus and get ready for a long and difficult road to a Final Four appearance and possible national title run. The Bulldogs fell in the AP rankings yet can still grab a No. 1 seed before the March 15 selection committee deadline if they run through the West Coast Conference Tournament while having one of the other top ranked schools falter during their own tournaments. Gonzaga is an excellent mid-major conference school but may be overhyped on a yearly basis, at least where a national title is concerned.

The Bulldogs are a fun team that probably has very little chance at winning a national title. If you believed in the school last week, then by all means jump on the opportunity to get even better odds. However, teams like Gonzaga just do not win national titles. Expect a decent postseason run from the team, even though a Final Four appearance is unlikely.
