2015 Season Win Total Picks NCAA Football: 'Over'

Georgia State showed remarkable improvement last year: they actually won a game! GSU has gone 1-23 the past two seasons and just 2-33 over the last three. They haven't had a winning year since 2010 when Shorter, Lamar and Savannah State were on the schedule. They were relatively competitive last year, losing three Sun Belt games by a field goal apiece, and I think this team will continue to improve this year.

The Panthers have 17 starters back, including their quarterback, top two runners, top two receivers, and three linemen. Sure, their offense mustered just 22.7 points per game last year. But I expect improvement. Defensively they were awful as well. But they have 19 of their top 21 tacklers back.

I think Georgia State will be better. But I don't know that they will get to three wins. They have two winnable games in their first four weeks. The home opener is against a Charlotte team playing its first game as an official FCS team, a transition State made five years ago. Georgia State also has a bye week before a game against tricky FCS team Liberty. Those could be two wins. But they aren't a given at all.

Do they have a Sun Belt upset in them? I think they do. But 'm not really willing to bet money on it. I think they could knock off South Alabama or Troy late in the year. But, again, they still need to sweep those two early games for a late-season 'W' to mean anything.

I think this is a 50-50 wager. But if we're going to make it I think I would make actually go against the grain here and play it 'over'.
