2015 Season Win Total Picks NCAA Football: 'Push'
I hit an easy winner with Georgia going 'over' their season win total last year. Aaron Murray and Co. had one of the quietest 10-win seasons you'll ever find, culminated with a blowout win in the Belk Bowl over Louisville. There has been some significant turnover for this year's group. But Georgia is another team in the mix near the top of the SEC East.
Georgia lost a four-year starting quarterback, a Heisman candidate at running back, and their offensive coordinator. But coach Mark Richt still thinks his team is solid on that side of the ball. Former NFL coordinator Brian Schottenheimer will be installing a completely new attack. And you can be sure he will key on up-and-coming stud back Nick Chubb. The Bulldogs also have a dominating offensive line and should be a ground-and-pound offense this year.
Last year's new coordinator, Jeremy Pruitt, was able to completely rebuild the defense. Georgia has six guys back, including the entire starting secondary from the No. 5 pass defense in the country, on the defensive side of the ball.
The Bulldogs have a pretty cushy opening month to the year. The key game, as always, is a home tilt with South Carolina. Beyond that they should be 4-0 going into an Oct. 3 home date with Alabama. That game could be a season-definer.
The Georgia Tech game will take place in Atlanta, a Bulldogs stronghold. And the Florida game is semi-neutral site in Jacksonville. So Georgia really only plays three games this year - at Vanderbilt, at Tennessee and at Auburn - on the road in truly hostile environments.
I have Georgia winning exactly nine games. I know that seems like a cop-out. But I have to call a 'push' on this one. I don't think they will win at Auburn. And they will lose at least one of the Alabama/Tennessee games. So the question becomes whether or not they lose one more game. I think so, with South Carolina, Florida, Missouri and Tech still lurking. I will call this one a 'push'.
