It's the middle of the baseball season, and the NBA and NHL have been finished for a month. Everybody needs a bit of a sports injection at this stage of the year, and the NFL is only a month and a half around the corner. That means it's time to take a look at the calendar and schedule and to mark down the can't-miss games to watch. It also means it's time to take a look at some of the early betting action available for Week 1 of the season. Here are some of the top moneyline dogs for the opening week of the 2015 NFL season.
*The actual moneylines for the following games are not available. However, the point spreads showcase which teams will be the clear underdogs and what their moneyline may eventually shape out to be based on how large the spread is.
Giants (+5.5) at Dallas Cowboys
Eli Manning and the New York Giants have been very successful in Dallas stretching back since the opening of the new Cowboys Stadium. Things didn't play out that way last season, but the Giants are both confident and comfortable playing in Dallas.
Meanwhile, the offense figures to come out guns blazing, with Odell Beckham Jr. healthy from the start of the year, the return of Victor Cruz, an improved running game, and the second year in their new system. The Giants could put up a lot of points this season and will showcase some of that potential in their favorite home-away-from-home stomping grounds.
Seattle (-3.5) at St. Louis
Disregard records and accomplishments in this matchup. Last year, St. Louis beat Seattle at home. And while the Rams have floundered around .500 for a couple of seasons, they always show up and play very tough at home against their top successful rivals in the division, the Seahawks and the 49ers.
Not only that, but the Seahawks could be in for a letdown here after the way their Super Bowl dreams got smashed last season. They won't say as much, but they may either be entirely too fired up or may come out flat. Either way, the Rams at home will be one of the top moneyline dogs for Week 1.
New Orleans (+3) at Arizona
While the Cardinals are coming off a very strong year, and the Saints certainly aren't, there are a lot of questions for the Cardinals. Can they deliver with the expectations already set high? Will Carson Palmer be fully healthy and both physically and mentally prepared for action?
Meanwhile, Drew Brees and the Saints have been written off. But the time isn't up for them yet. They have big plans for the season, and a road win in Week 1 against a playoff team from last season will make a huge statement for them. Taking the Saints as one of the top moneyline dogs in Week 1 makes a whole lot of sense.
