The Florida State Seminoles are coming off a magnificent three-year run where the team won a National Championship, made the first-ever College Football Playoff, while also winning 39 games over that span. Florida State, however, lost its star quarterback Jameis Winston, its top receiver and tight end, to go along with multiple linemen and a running back to the NFL Draft. The obvious challenge for the Seminoles is retooling a roster that lost most of its championship experience while remaining competitive in a tough ACC.

Coach Jimbo Fisher and his staff believe Florida State has enough talented in place, particularly with an improved defense, to stay in the ACC mix and playoff hunt throughout the year. The big question on the offensive end will be how quickly junior quarterback Sean Maguire can become acclimated with the offense and get comfortable in his role behind center. Florida State spent the offseason mired in controversy with another one of its star players making headlines for his poor off-the-field choices. The program indefinitely suspended starting running back Dalvin Cook after allegations surfaced that the player hit a woman outside a Tallahassee bar. The incident came on the heels of the program expelling its freshmen quarterback prospect, De'Andre Johnson, after video was released of the player striking a woman in the face during a separate barroom incident.

Cook was not only expected to be a key piece of Florida State's offense, but he was also being talked about as a potential Heisman candidate and considered to be one of the top running backs in the nation. The junior could eventually be reinstated to the team as he denies being involved in the incident, and he has a pending court date on Sept. 2.

The ACC is tough, but there are no matchups where the Seminoles would be considered a significant underdog-the squad did run through the conference with a perfect record last season. The difficult portion of the year will come in November as the team faces two road matchups against Clemson and Florida to go along with a home matchup against NC State. Even if Cook manages to return early in the season, there still seems to be at least one or two looming for an inexperienced Florida State team.

2015 will probably be an off year for a team that just ended a brilliant three-year run.
