Sports betting, if done correctly, is more of an investment than a hobby or way to gamble. But sometimes you just want to kick your feet up and spend the weekend betting on games. And if that is something you are looking to do, while still making the best plays possible, then this weekend has nothing but great betting options. So cancel all your plans, or pretend to be sick so you won't have to attend Aunt Gertrude's 80th birthday party, and get ready for a great sports weekend. Let's take a closer look at the best games and figure out the correct way to wager on them.
Saturday Morning College Football
No. 9 Michigan State at No. 3 Ohio State (-13.5): The big matchup heading into the weekend of college football is a meeting between two Big Ten powerhouses. Ohio State is only 4-6 ATS, and the team will give up double-digit points in this game, while the Spartans are an even worse 3-7 ATS. This game will only be the second time that Michigan State has been an underdog all season, and taking the points feels like a juicy option against a Buckeyes team that has struggled to cover double-digit spreads all season.
Saturday Night Fights
Cross-Sport Parlay : Saul Alvarez (-280) vs Miguel Cotto (+217); Kelvin Gastelum (-285) vs Neil Magny (+220): If you are a fight fan then Saturday has a boxing and mixed martial arts double-header. Alvarez and Gastelum are solid favorites heading into the matchups, but both Cotto and Magny do have value as underdogs. "Canelo" is still a young fighter who lacks in the movement department, and imagining a situation where Cotto out-boxes the young champion is not farfetched. Over the in the MMA world, Gastelum struggles to make the 170 welterweight limit, and it has shown over his last two fights, while Magny is viewed as a future title contender in the division. An all-underdog parlay pays out at a 9/1 rate.
Sunday Morning NFL
Basic strategy teaser : Green Bay +7.5 and Carolina -1.5: A basic strategy teaser is a two-team, six-point teaser that moves favorites of 7.5 to 8.5 points down and underdogs of 1.5 to 2.5 points up. And the two best games that fall in that range this weekend are the Packers and Panthers. Green Bay has been struggling for a while now, but adding six points and bringing its line to over seven points feels like a great spot. Aaron Rodgers and company will not lose every game for the rest of the season, and even if they lose this week I expect it to be close. Carolina, on the other hand, is on a huge winning streak that began at the end of last season, and Washington is probably not the team to end it. So throw a small bet down on this fun, yet powerful teaser.
NBA underdog game of the day : Toronto Raptors at Los Angeles Clippers: Los Angeles will be coming off a huge loss to the Golden State Warriors, and while the team will have played another game before Sunday's home matchup against Toronto, that loss will still be on everyone's mind. The Raptors are currently sitting on the best ATS record in the league at 9-4, which also includes a 6-3 mark on the road. The line for this game isn't out yet, but if it's anything over 5.5 points all the value shifts toward Toronto. Los Angeles is 6-5 SU at the moment and not playing its best basketball. Look to take the Raptors in this one if the spread is right.
