2015 Season Win Total Picks NCAA Football: 'Over'

I have to hand it to coach David Cutcliffe. The guy has made Duke football relevant in the ACC, something that no one thought possible as recently as five years ago. But Duke's success - they are 19-8 the last two seasons - is as much a product of comically easy schedules as it has been some significant bump in their talent and scheme.

This year will be a challenge for Cutcliffe. He has to replace his dynamic QB-WR combo of Anthony Boone and Jamison Crowder as well as two big pieces on the offensive line. Defensively, the five-man secondary returns intact and is absolutely loaded. But they have to replace five of six starters on their front. Fortunately they are plugging in a lot of seniors to these roles. But their defense is still a bit of an unknown.

The schedule is, once again, kind of a joke. Duke opens on the road against a bad Tulane team. That is followed by four straight home games before a gimme game against rebuilding Army. A 5-1 start is possible, and at worst they will be 4-2.

Duke gets two more home games against non-Top 25 teams (Miami and Pitt) and two very winnable road games at Virginia and Wake Forest. They also play rival UNC on the road; but anything goes in rivalry games.

I don't think Duke is very good this year. But they actually have a chance to get to nine wins. I would play this one 'over' simply because of the cupcakes on their schedule.
